Exit 8 Beer by Flying Fish Co

Exit 8 Beer by Flying Fish Co

I’m considered somewhat of a beer snob by my friends. I’ve found a love for craft beers and given the opportunity, will spend my evening out trying different beers form the craft list on tap. A local favorite is Flying Fish Brewing Company in Cherry Hill, NJ. They have a series of beers dedicated and honoring the NJ turnpike exits! My favorite thus far happens to be my own exit 4! A great Belgian Style Trippel. The latest to be released is Exit 8!

To borrow from their exit series website:

“The long-delayed eighth stop on our multi- year trip brings us to, coincidentally, Exit 8 and celebrates what puts the “Garden” in Garden State.

To celebrate Exit 8, one of our big farming areas, we’ve brewed a beer that uses a lost local ingredient: chestnuts–and a popular current one: local honey. This full-bodied hybrid Belgian-style brown ale brings forward a nutty character from the chestnuts, accented by the flavors of honey, roasted barley and oat flakes. There’s a nice spiciness from the Mt. Rainier hops while Chinooks add a touch of pine. Fuggles and Columbus round out the hop profile.

Exit 8 pairs perfectly with hearty foods like roast pork, sausages or a nice aged gouda.

Bottled conditioned, 8.3% abv”

Harpoon Brewery Visit at The Beer Appreciation club

Harpoon Brewery Visit at The Beer Appreciation club

on August 22 2010 Harpoon Brewery – Brewers of Harpoon IPA and UFO Hefeweizen paid a Visit to Our Beer Club, the DraughtBoard15 at the Gaslight BrewPub in South Orange NJ.

The Beers Tasted were Harpoon IPA , Octoberfest and Leviathan

It was rather underwhelming. The Host, Matt, was knowledgeable about his company and a Nice Person but did not seem too prepared. I think he was caught off guard by the group. The DraughBoard15 is made up of serious beer drinkers,  just not people there to get drunk.  The Group asked some good questions and there were some decent answers but in the end, it just was not enough.  There was not enough beer to get a good feel for the company’s style. I had never had Harpoon Before but the beer was good enough for me to drink again.
